The two major threats to the water quality of the Big Darby Creek are agricultural and urban water pollution. Rill Erosion

Rill erosion is a form of water erosion. Soil is removed through cutting away channels where water runoff concentrates. The soil channels are shallow enough where they can be destroyed by tilling the ground. (Soil Survey Div. Staff, 82) This is shown in the rill erosion picture above. This rill erosion was caused by urban development.

Erosion is the detachment and movement of soil material. It can happen naturally or it can be accelerated by human activity, as the three pictures above show. Depending on the landscape and weather conditions, erosion may be very slow or very rapid. (Soil Survey Div. Staff, 80)
