The Big Darby river winds and turns approximately 78 miles from it's headwaters northwest of Marysville, Ohio to it's confluence with the Scioto River at Circleville, Ohio. The Big Darby river drains a 580 square mile watershed dominated by intensive row crop agriculture, small amounts of forest and residential communities. The watershed includes all or parts of 6 counties, and numerous townships. Big Darby is a river of local importance for recreation and other practical needs; it is also regionally and nationally significant. This river is a last refuge of a plant and animal diversity once common in many midwestern rivers, but now nearly eliminated by human activity.
